BioTour on The Campaign Trail

This election season, it won’t just be the tour buses of the Democratic and Republican nominees crossing the nation campaigning; BioTour will have up to three more renewable energy school buses on the road this 2008 election season, campaigning for sustainability and democracy.

The 2008 congressional and presidential elections present a prime opportunity to unite people over the issues of sustainability and climate change. By expanding the program with additional buses and teams of educators, artists, and activists, BioTour seeks to capitalize on the growing energy surrounding one of the most anticipated elections in history.

BioTour on the Campaign Trail will be a vehicle of communication, reaching out to a wide range of organized communities, businesses and students across the country advocating democracy, renewable energy and energy/resource efficiency as the foundations of a sustainable society. BioTour will connect the creative culture that brings life to any movement—music, art, poetry, andadventure—to political culture and democratic action in order to attract new participants, allies and media attention in the growing movement to build a prosperous, sustainable society.

BioTour on the Campaign Trail Mission:

1. To encourage critical thought, discussion and understanding of the ecological realities, sustainablesolutions, and local and national government policies that relate to renewable energy, efficiency, climate change and the environment.

2. To facilitate the vital connections between concerned individuals, organized groups, and enterprises to the larger national sustainability movement.

3. To contribute to the development of a vibrant participatory democracy where citizens can channel widespread public support for climate change prevention, renewable energy and environmental sustainability into real action in local and national government.

4. To influence national discussion and debate so that sustainability—climate change, peak oil, and renewable energy—are central issues in national elections. The ultimate goal of BioTour is to catalyze the sustainability movement so it can push forward the necessary changes for society to meet human needs within ecological limits.
