Vegetable Oil-Powered Bus - Solar Electricity

BioTour is a journey that aims to enliven the Sustainability Movement while exploring the depths of America—the people, land, and cultures. BioTour addresses the vital issues of climate change, environmental degradation, and peak oil while presenting pathways toward sustainability in renewable energy, and active democracy.
In less than a year on the road, BioTour has brought a tangible example of sustainability to 42 states, holding more than 70 events at colleges, K-12 schools and community gatherings around the country. In the fall of 2008, BioTour seeks to capitalize on the energy surrounding one of the most anticipated election seasons in history with an expanded program called BioTour on the Campaign Trail. From September through December, four renewable energy-powered buses with crews of trained professionals will travel across the lower 48 states before national elections. Teams will advocate for sustainability as an essential goal of our society and promote active democracy as a means to achieve it. We are looking for new crew members (Click here for Job Description and Application Online) and seeking people to join the fund raising team.

Thank you everyone who engaged us in conversation, invited us into your homes for food and drink (and hot showers), and provided financial support as we upgrade our bus and improve our organization. A special thank you to PrairieFire BioFuels and Coulee Region BioFuels of Madison and Blair, Wisconsin for donating time and labor to upgrade our vegetable oil conversion system. Another special thank you to the American Council on Renewable Energy in Washington, DC for support and guidance into the non-profit world.
To read about the many characters we met, the renewable energy and sustainable living projects we encountered, and the adventures that found us along the way check out the BioTour Vagabond Journal.
